Andrea Guay's paintings are reflections of her personality: spontaneous, contemplative and deliberate.

Her work is the study of an attempt to understand place. It reflects her feelings and experiences in a given location at a particular point in time, layered with both personal narrative and studied elements such as history, culture, and language.

She uses both non-literal color to evoke an emotion or to reflect the history and culture of that specific environment. Structural devices in her work create visual barriers, forcing the eye to forge a path around them, and journey through the rest of the canvas. In this remaining space, she blends memory, imagination, history, and culture to create a multi-layered experience. The ending result in her abstracted works is a journey through space and time.
