Kathy Baker Mackey Art (Studio 2W7)
A mostly self-taught artist and a late bloomer. I began painting as an outlet while attending college, in mid-life. My field of study was demanding and stressful and I needed a creative outlet. I fell in love with the feel of the brush and paint as it flowed on the canvas. I was an “early bloomer” in many areas of my life but there are many joys in being a late bloomer. Studied under Texas artists Niki Gulley and Nancy Medina. Attended workshops by: Niki Gulley, Nancy Medina, Laurie Pace and New York artist, Henry Finkelstein. Attended International ArtTreks with Niki Gulley to Venice, Italy. I've been blessed to travel to beautiful parts of the world. Those experiences influence my art. I paint from the many pictures I snap and also the memories in my mind and heart. I paint exclusively with oil. I just love the feel as the paint transfers from the brush or knife onto the canvas. I start with an idea, a vision and sometimes a sketch. Lush thick puddles of color…an idea…that’s how it starts. Then a story evolves. I’m just the instrument used to tell the story.. God has richly blessed me. I sing His praises through brush strokes and color.
